Baby Bedding SetA baby bedding set is a must when preparing for the arrival of your little bundle of joy. Babies sleep a lot in the first few months, and they dirty a lot of sheets. When you begin planning what your new baby needs make sure to include several fitted crib sheets. You will also need sheets for the bassinet or cradle, whichever you choose. Other than a baby bedding set, your baby will need are several lightweight blankets and at least two heavier blankets. Receiving blankets are wonderful inventions. When your baby is a newborn, receiving blankets are large enough for swaddling or wrapping the baby in for comfort. Most babies sleep better at first when they are snuggly wrapped. Just make sure their faces are not covered. Later on you can use the receiving blankets to help support the baby in the car seat or stroller. Just roll them up. Another use is to drape them over the stroller to help block wind or strong sunlight. You can never have enough. Heavier blankets may be used in colder weather, and to lay the baby on when playing on the floor. Any baby bedding set should be washable. It is important to wash new baby bedding before it is used. Wash it in warm water with a gentle detergent made for babies and make sure it is rinsed well. Dry it thoroughly before you use it again to prevent chafing and rashes on tender baby skin. Additional items you will need for you baby are several onesies, baby sleepers or nightgowns, baby socks and one or two newborn hats. The more of each item you have, the less often you will have to do laundry. A baby bedding set makes a great gift. Diapers are also required. You will need several packages of disposable diapers, or at least 20 cloth diapers. Babies soil as many as 10 diapers a day so be prepared. If you choose to use cloth diapers you will also need plastic pants and plenty of baby detergent. A special container or diaper pail can be set up containing soapy water for soiled diapers to be soaked in before they are washed. Baby wipes should also be on hand. Waterproof changing pads are also useful. You will need at least 5 baby washcloths for bathing your baby, and even though regular towels are adequate, hooded baby towels are wonderful to have. A bottle of special baby wash is easier to use then bar soap, and it can be used as shampoo. You will need several bottles, each with a nipple and cover unless you are breast-feeding. Regardless of which method you choose you will need at least 10 burp cloths. Cloth diapers work well as long as they are uses only for this purpose and not the purpose they are intended for! If you bottle-feed you will also need something to sterilize the equipment in. This may be a special bottle sterilizer, or a large pot and a set of tongs. Since you have prepared ahead of time for your baby’s homecoming, you will have more time to get to know your child without having to run around a lot.
