Bed CoversAlmost everyone needs some type of bed covers for their bed. Even people who live in warm climates often like to cover themselves with a top sheet when they sleep if nothing else. But if you live in a colder climate, you will need something to cover your bed that will keep you warm through the winter months. There are many types of bed covers from which to choose. What you pick may depend on how warm you want to stay, what you want your bed to look like, or even how much you wish to spend. Traditionally, people covered their beds with bedspread. These are thicker than sheets, but not wooly like a blanket. Bedspreads are made of matelasse, cotton chintz, chenille, and velvet among other fabrics. A blanket is a low cost type of bedding that will provide warmth, but is not too bulky for the bed. You can even buy electric blankets, which have heating units in them to warm the bed throughout the night. Blankets are made out of many materials including cotton, chenille, fleece, and vellux. Comforters are very popular as a type of bed covers. It is different from a blanket is that it is a fabric cover filled with some type of material such as polyester or down feathers. Many people find it warmer and more comfortable than a blanket. A duvet is similar to a comforter, but it is always filled with down feathers. A duvet will usually be more expensive than a comforter will. Because a duvet is often considered an investment, if you purchase a duvet, you will want to get a duvet cover for it. The most important things to consider when purchase bed covers are how comfortable you want to be and how warm. If you are looking for inexpensive bedding that is warm, blankets work fine. If you want to be very warm, but hate bulk, consider an electric blanket. If you enjoy bed covers that are big and fluffy, consider a comforter. If you are willing to pay more money for the comfort of down feathers, a duvet is the bed covers for you.
