Bed sheets have become as important in home decorating as furniture.  This fact may be taken for granted among younger people, but older ones remember when white cotton bed sheets were the only option.

These days you can choose not only between color and design, you also have a choice of thread count and type of fabric in your bed sheets.  Usually you can buy bed sheets as sets.  A fitted bottom bed sheet, a flat sheet and pillow cases in the case of any size above twin will come together.  Almost any department store carries individual bed sheets, as well.

What’s the big deal with bed sheet thread count, and how do you find it?  Just like labels on canned food at the grocery store that tells you the ingredients inside, bed sheets also carry a label.  Among other things, this is where you will find the thread count of the bed sheets.

If you are looking for luxurious feeling bed sheets, know that the higher the thread count the better the sheets will feel. 

Cotton is still the most popular fabric for bed sheets.  Cotton blends will keep your bed sheets from wrinkling.  But if you live in a part of the country with chilly winter nights, you may appreciate knit, or flannel sheets to keep you warm and toasty.  Silky, satin sheets are luxurious; however, men’s stubbly whiskers tend to snag the fabric.

As far as color, lighter colors show less lint, while darker colors tend to look like they catch every particle floating in the air.  This could be important if you have a cat or dog that sleeps with you and sheds.

Bed sheets make excellent choices for gifts, especially wedding or anniversary.  All you need to know is the size of bed sheets needed and possibly color choice.  You can never really have too many bed sheets in your home.
