A duvet is a type of soft flat bedding that has become very popular today.  Duvets were created in Europe and were traditionally made from the Eider ducks down feathers.  If you are looking for down or feather filled bedding duvet covers are excellent choices, although you will need to check the tag.  Some duvets today are made with silk, wool, and artificial fibers rather than down feathers.  Duvets are used frequently today in Europe.  They are also used in Australia, but are called doona.  Doona was originally a trademarked name for down feathers, but is now often used to refer a duvet or comforter with down feathers.

If you purchase a duvet, you will want to get a good duvet cover.  When considering bedding duvet covers are something that many people forget about.  Normally, the duvet has a cover, sometimes also known as a quilt cover.  You can purchase duvet covers where bedding is sold, but some creative people like to make their own.  If you decide to do this, remember that your finishing measurements will need to be 72 x 90 inches for a twin bed, 84 x 96 inches for a double bed, 90 x 102 inches for a queen sized bed, and 102 x 108 inches for a king size bed.  If you decide to purchase a duvet cover, check the thread count.  Anything with a thread count of 180 and above is considered to be of good quality.  A duvet cover of excellent quality – one with a 600 thread count – can run around $350.00.

You will notice when looking at bedding duvet covers come in many different sizes and colors.  Many people prefer white as you can cover it with the cover to match your bedroom colors.  Remember, which purchasing a duvet for bedding duvet covers are a must have item!
