A duvet is very closely related to a comforter, except that a duvet is usually filled with some kind of feathers, usually goose feathers which is also known as “down”.  Duvets are very soft, warm, and comfortable.  Because a duvet cannot simply be thrown into the washing machine like an ordinary comforter, it’s important to protect it using a duvet cover.  There are literally thousands of different duvet covers available to choose from, so how do you know which one will be right for you?  First, find out what size your duvet is.  Most come in the standard sizes of twin, queen, and king.  Once you know the size, you’ll want to match the duvet cover with it.  Thread count is also something to consider.  The higher the thread count, the softer and more luxurious the duvet cover will be, so look for high thread counts when shopping for a cover.

Many times you can find a duvet cover that will also come with matching pillowcases.  This is important, because you don’t want the pillow to clash with the duvet cover.  Look for covers that are sold as sets, or that are sold individually but come with matching pillowcases.  Patterns, textures and colors are plentiful, so shop around until you find the right design for your bed and your room.  Some duvet covers are made of silk, while others are made of cotton.  It is really a matter of both taste, and what is within your particular price range.  Look for good sales on duvet covers in the size you need so you can get a great deal on one without having to pay a fortune.  You may even be able to buy more than one in case you want to change it up a bit.  Duvet covers can easily be removed from the duvet and washed or dry cleaned, protecting your duvet from any damage or excess dirt.
