Queen Comforter Sets

If you are looking for queen comforter sets but you are having a hard time finding a set that you like then you may want to consider making your own. A great way to make a comforter that matches your sheet set perfectly is to use sheets as the exterior fabric of your comforter. For this project you will need: two queen sized sheets, queen sized quilting batting, a sewing machine (or needle and thread), thread, pins, and scissors.

The first step in making your queen comforter sets is to buy all of your supplies. You will need to buy two flat sheets that are queen sized, one spool of thread, pins, scissors, and batting. You should be able to find these materials at department stores, fabric stores, linen stores, and craft stores.

The second step is to layout your quilt. To do this you will need a large area where you can spread out the two sheets flat. When you layout the sheets make sure that their right sides are facing each other. Next lay the quilting batting out on top of the sheets. Pin the batting and the two sheets all together. The batting will probably fall over the edges of your sheets. If this is the case simply trim the batting to the same size of the sheets.

The third step to making queen comforter sets is to sew three sides of the quilt together. You will want to follow the margin recommendations that come with your sewing machine. Make sure that you use a stitch setting that is secure and double locking if at all possible. If you will be sewing this quilt by hand then you will want to make sure that your stitches are close together and double threaded. When you come to the fourth side of the quilt you will only want to sew about three quarters of the way. This is because you will need to leave enough space to turn your quilt right side out before completing the sewing. After the sewing has reached this point turn your quilt inside out carefully. Then tuck the edges under and finish sewing the rest of the quilt’s edge.

Now you will have a completely enclosed quilt. Your next step will be to quilt the bedding. If your sewing machine has a quilting option then you can use that to help secure the batting to the quilt’s exterior fabric. If it doesn’t then you may want to use a simpler quilting design such as squares and triangles. If you are quilting by hand you can follow quilting patterns offered in quilting books.

The final step in creating your quilt is to add embellishments to your quilt. This is an optional step that doesn’t need to be done; however, it does add texture and design interest to your quilt. Some embellishment options include adding ribbons, bindings, buttons, patches, or appliqués. If you are new to sewing you may want to stick with simply embellishments, however, if you want to you can always try out an advanced technique on a sample piece of material before using it on your quilt.
