Futons

Do you have a spare bedroom that might benefit from a futon?  Beds take up a lot of room, but futons are no larger than a small sofa.  Even though futons are smaller than a bed, they still serve as a bed.  At the same time; during the day futons serve as a couch.  Futons give you the best of both worlds.

Futons are originally from Japan, but came on the scene in the United States in the 1940s and have been gaining in popularity ever since.  Futons are not like pull out beds inside a sofa.  Futons more or less fold in half.

Futon frames are usually made of metal or wood, and come in a variety of styles and colors.  You can find futons in mission, cottage, contemporary, traditional, and even tropical designs.

You can find futon mattresses in cotton, coil, foam and spring styles that are comfortable to sit on during the day, and gives you a cozy night’s sleep.

Perhaps the real benefits of futons are the covers.  You can change the look of the entire room just by changing the cover of futons.  You can find covers for futons anywhere from animal prints, to tropical prints.  If your taste in futons is more ethnic you can even find Asian and Southwestern looks.  Faux suede, floral, plaids and solid covers for futons are very popular.

If that doesn’t give you enough variety, add in the fact that futons are light enough to move around the room for even more looks.

The firmness of futons depends on what stuffing is used, so be sure to ask, if this is important to you.  Wool and foam is more firm, while cotton and polyester are softer.

Besides the benefit of changing decorating in your home, futons are very economical and convenient.
