King Size

The king size bed is the largest and most luxurious of all beds. Many people may not know that even though king size seems like a standard size, there are actually different kinds of king size beds. Typically there are two basic styles of king size beds, but they have four different names, which can make the selection process a bit confusing.

The two main types of king size beds are the standard king and the California king. The standard king size bed can also be called an eastern king, and the California king can also be called a western king, depending on both the manufacturer and the retailer where the bed is sold. So what is the difference between a standard king and a California king?

The answer is actually quite simple. The standard king size bed is about 4” wider, while the California king size bed is about 4” longer.  Usually this decision is made depending on the person’s height.  Taller people may opt for the California king since it is longer.

When shopping for sheets, it’s important to be sure you select the right size for your king size bed.  You don’t want to get home only to find that the sheets are either too short, or too narrow to fit the bed properly. Most sellers of sheets and other linens will specify which type of king size bed they are made for, but not all. This is especially prudent when it comes to buying fitted sheets. Most flat sheets should fit either type of king size bed.  No matter which kind of king size bed you choose, you will have a lot more room and will be much more comfortable than if you were to purchase a smaller bed.

King size is definitely the bed of choice for most people, as long as they know what to look for.
