Leather Beds

Leather beds are beautiful additions to any bedroom. They look stylish and luxurious, while remaining in style for years to come. They are also made more affordable when you take into account how long they last.

At one time leather beds and other leather furniture were considered to be for rich people only. Thanks to advancements in the process of manufacturing and new understanding in how to properly care for leather, it is now considered attainable for just about everyone. Leather is one of the most durable and long lasting fabrics on the market today. It lasts 4 to 5 times longer than any other upholstered fabric and is resistant to fire, heat and sun. Leather does not crack or peel, and wears well.

The leather used to create your bed is available in many colors and the beds come in several styles. Leather sleigh beds are beautiful and adaptable to any décor with the right bedding. Platform beds are also versatile. It is easy to match other pieces in your room, since you don’t have to worry about wood grain unless you want to.

For rooms that are smaller or lack storage space, you might consider a leather storage platform bed. These beds flip up to reveal a spacious storage compartment. Leather sofa beds are also popular, as are leather day beds. Some are all leather; others are combined with wood accents.

Leather beds will remain looking beautiful for years making them well worth the investment. To protect this investment follow a few simple rules. Do not place leather beds to close to radiators, fireplaces, or any other direct heat source. Do not place leather beds in direct sunlight. The leather will fade over time.

Cleaning is important also. Dust your leather by wiping it with a soft cloth at least once a week. If you spill food or drink on the leather, spot clean it immediately. You can use a damp (not soaked) cloth and liquid hand soap for this. A good, professional leather cleaner is necessary for stains such as urine, blood, ink or gum. Follow the directions carefully.

Leather conditioner or preservative should be applied when you first place your leather bed and quarterly thereafter, following a cleaning with a good leather cleaner. The more care you give, the longer your leather will last, and the better it will look. Leather ages and becomes more supple with time.

It is also a good idea to purchase a good mattress to go with your beautiful bed. Comfort is just as important as looks. A great bed is only as good as its mattress. Make sure you know what size mattress you need before you shop, and test it for comfort and support.

Just because your bed is leather doesn’t mean all of your other bedroom furniture has to be leather too. You may choose to mix and match using wooden nightstands or dressers. You may prefer lamps and mirrors with leather accents. The choice is yours to make.
