Poster BedsThere is nothing quite so beautiful in bedrooms as poster beds. These types of beds bring a touch of class, elegance, and charm to any bedrooms. Poster beds can come in many different styles and can be made out of many different materials, but the thing that makes them all what they are is the fact that they have long posts on each corner. Sometimes these posts hold something over the top of the bed, and sometimes they just stand on their own. Some of the most popular types of poster beds are the ones where the frames are made out of a nice wood such as oak, maple, or pine. There is usually a good, glossy finish put on the wood for protection, though this doesn’t necessarily have to be the case. The posts on the bed are usually thick, although they can be any type of design. When the posts are rounded, there are usually round knobs on the top, but when the posts are squared, there may or may not be a decoration on the top of the posts. The posts on these beds are often used to hold up some type of canopy over the bed. When a bed is decorated in this manner it is often called a “canopy bed”, but it is still the poster type of bed. The canopy can be wired so that it is arched over the top of the bed, or it can be loose and hang in the middle. It all depends on the look that you are going for. Poster beds can lend themselves to many different types of room themes when you use canopies with them. You can create a jungle theme around these beds by using a thin sheet of muslin that goes over the posts and drapes down a few feet on each side, creating the look of mosquito netting. Add some faux jungle fur throw rugs and some African or Indian art statues and you have a beautifully decorated room. You could also drape a covering over the posts that match your wallpaper or wall paint, or that complement the look of your bedding. Poster beds without any type of canopy or draping on top look fine all on their own, and many people use them in just this manner. Often wood rails will connect the posts on either side of the bed, or the wood rails will connect all around the bed. There are so many designs to these types of beds that it would be hard not to find one that would suit your tastes.
