Wall Bed

Wall beds came into origin in 1900 when W.L. Murphy experimentally made a folding bed that could hide in the wall. The purpose of Murphy's contrivance was to use his apartment's' limited space more fully. In 1918, these wall beds (also called Murphy beds after their inventor) started to be manufactured in San Francisco when Murphy invented the pivot beds. Since then, wall beds have been in use.

Modern Wall Beds

Wall beds have evolved during the course of time. They have become less complicated and more efficient in use. This owes to advanced manufacturing features that counter balance the bed's weight. Their efficient pending gas piston lifting system allows a smooth and quiet motion and also safety against failing by breaking a spring.

Installation of Modern Wall Beds

You get the modern wall beds in two boxes such that the critical parts like brackets, pivot points etc. are already installed on the tray and panels. It is easy to assemble the bed face down on the floor. No floor mounting is required. All you do is tip it up in position and screw it to the studs in the wall.

Fixing the Wall Bed

You need to fix the wall bed to structural members like wood studs. A minimum of three anchor points must be provided. Besides wood studs, these can be sheet metal studs, cinder block, brick, or concrete.

Legs of the Wall Bed

For lasting usage, a heavy-duty 90-degree cabinet hinge is used to hinge the legs of the wall bed. They are designed such that they hide when the bed is not being used.

Applications

Wall beds have wide applications for both daily personal use and entertaining guests. But they certainly are not confined to the household. Hospitals, hotels, fire stations, motels, and resorts in both USA and abroad make use of wall beds for serving people.
