American MattressIf you have ever had to buy an American mattress then you know how expensive a mattress set can be. The range of set prices depend on the quality of the materials used, the style of the set, the manufacturer of the set, and the features that the set offers. Some high end models that are made from the best materials and that offer the most features can cost over $2,000, and this doesn’t include the bed frame. In order to maximize the value of your set you will need to take six specific steps to ensure that it remains functional, comfortable, and clean. The first American mattress maintenance task that you will need to do to prolong its useful life is to protect the mattress’s cover from stains and debris. A simple way to protect your mattress is to buy a mattress cover and put it on your bed. The cover will not only protect the fabric on your bed from being stained by small spills and moisture deposits, but it will also help keep food crumbs and dirt away from your bed, again protecting the bed’s cover fabric from stains and odor absorption. The second thing that you can do to protect your American mattress from stains, damage, and odor development is to use a waterproof mattress cover. These covers have been designed to use on toddler beds to protect the mattress from night time wetting accidents, however, they can also be used in adult beds to protect the bed’s fabric from incontinence or medical leakage. These waterproof covers can be either re-usable or they can be disposable. The reusable covers can be found in beddings departments, and the disposable covers can be found in health care stores, drug stores, or in the medical supply aisle in a department store. The third task that you will want to do to protect your American mattress is to buy and install a foam topper. This topper will provide two different services. First it will protect your mattress top from wear and tear. It will absorb your movement and help to distribute your weight more evenly over the entire mattress surface. Secondly it will provide you with a softer, more supportive surface to sleep on. The next task that will help prolong your mattress’s life is to periodically flip it. For most mattresses this task should be done once a month, however, for the flip free models once every six months to one year is sufficient. You should flip your mattress head to toe, as well as flipping it over. This will help to distribute the amount of wear and tear that the mattress experience during its lifetime and it will help prolong its useful life. The fifth task that you will need to perform to prolong the life of your mattress is to clean it periodically. The type of mattress set that you have will determine what cleaning steps that you will need to take. For most beds cleaning is as simple as vacuuming the surface fabric of the bed, spot cleaning the topper fabric, and/or removing the topper cover and washing it.
