King Size MattressesWhen searching for a new bed, one of the questions that must be addressed is which size to purchase. Mattresses come in several different sizes, and choosing the right one is not only important for aesthetic and financial reasons, but it can also affect the quality of one’s sleeping situation, which in turn affects that person’s quality of life. Probably the first real bed most people sleep on as a child is a single, or twin bed. At 39 by 75 inches, this is the smallest standard size in which mattresses come, and in many cases such as in a room shared by siblings, two of them will be placed in a room as a set. Other times, people choose to put a twin bed in a guest bedroom, or a room that is too small to fit a larger bed along with the rest of the bedroom furniture and still be comfortable. Next up in size is the double bed, also known as a full sized bed. The standard length and width of this type is 54 by 75 inches, which is exactly as long as the twin size, but slightly less than one and a half times as wide. The double is a good choice for someone for whom space is still a factor, but also wishes to have a bit more room in which to stretch out while sleeping. A couple can also share this bed, but light or restless sleepers should probably choose one of the larger sizes, as two people have to sleep very closely on a double bed. A favorite among couples who share a bed, queen size mattresses are both longer and wider than the smaller two sizes at 60 by 80 inches, and provide enough room for two people to sleep comfortably, while still fitting in rooms that may be too small to fit a larger king size mattress. A single sleeper may also choose this option if room space is not as much of an issue as is comfort and sleeping space. Just as long as the queen, but sixteen inches wider, king size mattresses truly live up to their name, as they are the largest standard sized beds one can buy. At 76 by 80 inches, king size mattresses are very spacious even for two people, and are an excellent choice among light-sleeping couples who would otherwise wake each other up with every shift and turn throughout the night. Often, certain padding materials such as memory foam are also added to minimize movement from the other side of the bed. To ensure that one purchases the right-sized mattress for the given situation, he has to factor in the potential use and location of the bed. In a space-challenged room for a single person, a smaller mattress such as a twin or double would be a good choice. Conversely, beds that are to be used by two people in a room that is a bit larger should probably contain either queen or king size mattresses.
